Acne rosacea

Acne rosacea

Acne rosacea is an acne form that causes persistent redness over the face and nose, forehead, the chin and the lower half of the nose. The tiny blood vessels in these areas often enlarge and become more visible through the skin, or appear like tiny red lines.

Unlike common acne, acne rosacea is not mainly a plague of teenagers, usually occurs in adults (30 to 50 years of age). Fair-skinned people are more often affected. It strikes both sexes.

It tends to be more frequent in women but more severe in men. Its most persistent feature is a bright red flush. It is a chronic disorder that often affects the eye.

Use of hot liquids, sun and/or wind exposure, spicy foods, extreme temperatures, alcohol, stress, and prescription topical steroids can make this condition worse.

Presence of Helicobacter pylori (bacteria) is often associated with Acne rosacea and elimination of this bacterium with appropriate therapy usually improves the condition.
